Five minutes management course

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.

The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour.

Before she says a word, Bob says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’

‘It was Bob the next door neighbour,’ she replies.

‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?’

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish.’
‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’
Puff! She’s gone.

‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’

Puff! He’s gone.

‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, ‘I want those two back in the office after lunch.’

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 3

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’
The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 4

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’
‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull. They’re packed with nutrients.’

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough str ength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there..

Lesson 5

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your
friend.

(3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep
your mouth shut!

THUS ENDS THE FIVE MINUTES MANAGEMENT COURSE!

Its SO CUTE!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhh~

Cute right? :D

Big feast @ Lau Pat Sat :D

First of all, here’s my thoughts of the week in IAP:

Today marks the end of my 3rd week, time seems to past so quickly as we get more and more busy.

This week, I learnt a lot of new things again. What is a Purchase Request (PR) form, how to do a real quotation, how does things/ processes goes in the working world, and many more! We even get a chance to go out to one of the VWO to delivery items. It was great!

Roger and I are going to develop a simple system to generate delivery report for the delivery man to use – it’s time to make use of our specialisation! I hope to be useful to the family (Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box family).

Lastly, I hope to learn even more things again next week, I’m looking forward to it!

I went to meet James and Wei Xiong with Roger. We went to Lau Pat Sat to have a big feast~ it was damn great!

I eat until damn full! And also laugh until mouth damn tired (suan) LOL.. I gonna turn fat larh! No, is even fatter! hahaa.

Long time never have such a good meal~ now I’d say that, to eat until damn full doesn’t mean got to eat buffet, all these things we ate also can make us as full just as though we ate buffet!

We ate like, err. Got a bit different, but basically, we shared the pineapple fried rice, which is damn delicious in my opinion, japanese chicken cutlet curry rice (not bad, just that the egg sucks), Satay (so many people pester us to eat Satay O.o), ice jelly with cocktail~

All these food cost me like around $10~$12 I think.. it’s definitely cheaper than eating buffet! And I’m so damn full now~ hahaha. First time eat non buffet food and yet can make me so full! xD

Okay, gonna go wash up and play some game now. Finally is weekend! Guess what? All along I always believe that my supervisors are damn nice. Today, I heard the “stories” from Wei Xiong and James’s company.. I realise that my supervisors are actually so damn great~ :D

I LOVE TO WORK AT BOYS’ BRIGADE IN SINGAPORE!

Looking forward to work next week~ if only my workplace is moved closer to my house~ lols. The only thing I hate is the travelling time, the rest I love them. hahaa.

Okay larh, like so weird to say I love to work. People might thinkI’m crazy. haha. That’s all for today, till I blog again!

Cheerios~

There is a bus with 7 girls inside. Each girl has 7 bags. Inside each bag there are 7 big cats. Each big cat has 7 small cats. All cats have 4 legs each. How many legs are on the bus?

Riddle answer is zero legs on the bus since a bus has wheel.

Maths answer is 10990.

The question listed above on the title is so called a “forwarded email” or “spam mail” which people forwards the excel file to people all over the world. Here’s a copy of the text:

If you can open the spreadsheet, you will see it’s a very small list of
people who have gotten the correct number.

There are 7 girls in a bus
Each girl has 7 bags
In each bag, there are 7 big cats
For every big cat, there are 7 little cats
Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

The number of legs is the password to unlock the Excel sheet.

If you open it, add your name and send it on to see who else can unlock it.
Send it back to let the person know you got it correct. This is a real maths
problem and there is no bus driver.

Put your name in the column with the names and forward it on, if you get the
right answer.

How did I get 10990?

Each girl has 7 bags

- > Each bag has 7 big cats
- > Each big cat has 7 kittens

CATS WITHIN ONE BAG

Big cat # 1 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 2 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 3 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 4 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 5 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 6 + 7 kittens = 8

Big cat # 7 + 7 kittens = 8

Total = 7 X 8 = 56 cats per bag

NO. OF CATS WITH EACH GIRL

Each girl has 7 bags; thus:
- > 56 cats per bag * 7 bags= 392 cats with each girl

TOTAL NO. OF CATS IN TOTAL

- > 392 cats per girl * 7 girls = 2744 cats in total

TOTAL NO. OF LEGS FROM ALL THE CATS

- > 2744 cats in total * 4 legs per cat = 10976 legs in total (belongs to cats)

TOTAL NO. OF LEGS FROM THE 7 GIRLS (this is obvious)

- > 7 girls * 2 legs each = 14 legs in total (belongs to girls)

TOTAL NO. OF LEGS IN TOTAL (SOLVED!!)

- > 10976 legs (cats) + 14 legs (girls) = 10990 legs in total

Hope my explanations are clear. Cheers~

Coincidence

Life have been so busy that I hardly get the free time to use computer! Thus I’m not able to update my blog as frequently as how I used to!

Oh well, actually that’s not totally true. I’m in front of computer for the whole day, but I’m at work – it’s different! I don’t go facebook, don’t watch shows, everything never. All I did is work, work, and work! I’m a hardworking intern okay! :D

If you’re wondering what is an intern, simply highlight the next paragraph of words; or else, just skip it.

An intern or stagiaire is one who works in a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment, making it similar to an apprenticeship.

Today is thursday and tomorrow is the last day of my second week. I realise how slow time past during my first week at work, and how fast time past in my second week. This shows how time past when people are busy – time flies.

Okay, so why coincidence as this entry’s title? First of all, I worked OverTime yesterday, as an intern, we don’t earn OT pay; instead, we get time-off. So what is it? Means, we end work later than usual, so on the following day, we start work later as well~

Thus, I went out late today.. I saw Wei Kiang at City Hall MRT station! Oh man, and that’s around 9 am in the morning.. somemore his workplace don’t require him to dress in office wear~ so shiok wor~ normally, at 9am, I’m already working hard in the office already lor! He’s a lucky guy~ :p

Did I mentioned that earlier on, when I board the train at Yishun MRT station, I saw a friend of mine. A very long time ago friend, I can’t really remember her name. She didn’t recognises me as well! But I remember I know her brother also.. Hong Bin? Aww, can’t remember. Somewhat related to Naval Base Secondary School thing. Can’t remember anything now! =.=

Later when I meet up with Roger, he told me that he saw his secondary school’s class monitress (he’s the monitor ;x). He say he long long time no see her already, then today so coincident that he saw her, he’s so happy sia. Then I told him that I saw Wei Kiang just now.. then we laugh laugh say “SO COINCIDENCE SIA TODAY~”

Then guess what? Immediately, we heard a familiar voice calling our names.. we turned around and is…

Mr Anthony Szeto!

LOL! The nicest lecturer on earth! :D

*Note to those who don’t know*

During my Year 2 semester 2 in polytechnic, my computer spoiled and I cannot do any of my 5 projects which are all cramped up there and the deadline is getting closer each day.

I approach many lecturers for help and due to all kind of reasons, they didn’t help me.

Mr Anthony Szeto help me, he use his name to borrow a laptop from nyp for me to do my projects (somemore very good one, 2gb ram) He’s so nice!

A more owning fact is that, he’s not even teaching me in that semester, and he’s so keen to help me, SO GOOD DE LECTURER WHERE TO FIND!? I this life won’t forget how he help me~ :D

Okay back to the post. He was with his wife~ haha. Didn’t get to talk to him much because we rushing for work. haha. When FYP starts and I’m back at NYP, I sure go ka jiao (disturb) him. hahaha.

Okay larh, I gonna go watch show already. Cheers~

The carrot, Egg, & Coffee Bean

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her.

She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see.”

“Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity — boiling water. Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat?

Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a

financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?

Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
