Basketball Session w/ My Good Buddies!

Yesterday finally meet up with Rong Yao, Man Chun, Albert Sea, and Michael Chin to play Basketball! It have been a super long time since we last meet up for gathering already! :D

Didn’t manage to take photos with Albert and Michael though, but managed to take with Rong Yao and Man Chun, here’s the picture:

Man Chun & Wen Bin (THE GOLDEN PARTNER)

Initially we wanted to play at Blk 346 Basketball Court in Yishun, as that’s where we first started to play basketball together :D

End up we move over to Blk 326, which is empty and got buildings to block the sun from burning us (okay larh, initially, it got block, but as time past, it didn’t block anymore -_- we still get burn hahaha)

I still remember last time when I still live at Blk 300+, I play basketball at Blk 326 Court almost everyday! So much memories! :D

I still remember the first time I ever dunk on a real basketball rim; it’s at this basketball court @ 326! I dunked already, then I still hang on the rim and swing around~ and when I finally came down, I landed awkwardly with my butt down first LOL!!!!! SO PAIN. HAHA. Blue-black for like… weeks? LOL! Hilarious! xD

After that went to have our lunch at Block 925 coffee shop :D Then chit chat there.. One of my good buddy Man Chun is most likely going back to Hong Kong for University studies, wanted to ask him stay one, but I got help him analyse his current situation, and the conclusion is that:

It’s still better for him to return to Hong Kong for the sake of his future, it’s brighter that way. Nonethelessly, you will not be forgotten! And regarding the topic we were discussing yesterday, hope you consider my suggestions, and just leave the matter be; don’t ponder on it anymore, let nature take place yeah. You can do it one, the Man Chun I know sure can do it! :D Anything can come find me talk.

Rong Yao is doing well also, entering NS soon also, same as me :D And he’s working now already. So shuang! So fast got work already. Me still rotting and cannot find work due to IMAGINE CUP 2009! I don’t understand why my team got into the 2nd round =_=”

Albert is turning year two while Michael is turning year three! Let’s hope all the best to them on their studies and future! :D Set a goal, and work hard towards it!

Next Sunday probably going to play again! Let’s see~ :D

Till I blog again, cheerios!

The man whom went to Heaven

Here’s a meaningful story I’d like to share.

A man died and because he had been a good person, he went to Heaven, where Saint Peter greeted him at the door.

“Welcome!” he said.

“You can enter Heaven right away, but, because you lived such a good life, you can also go and check out Hell first, if you like.” said Saint Peter.

The man was rather curious and said – well, why not? – and he went down all the stairs to reach the door of Hell, which opened before him.

Behind the door, he saw many people sitting around tables with delicious food! But they were all very sad, and suffering, because instead of hands they had long knives and forks as arm extensions and they did not manage to put any of this great food in their mouths.

The man went back up to Heaven and said to Saint Peter: Wow, am I glad that I can go to Heaven. That is really some punishment.

“Welcome to Heaven,” Saint Peter said, as he let the man in.

What did he see there? He saw many people sitting around tables with delicious food, just like in Hell!
And just like in Hell, they also had these long fork and knive extensions on their arms!

But in Heaven, the people weren’t crying or cursing, because they were sticking the food in each other’s mouths! “Try this”, they laughed. “And this!”, and they had lots of fun in the process.

Happiness comes from making other people happy. Don’t be selfish but care for other people, and you will be taken care of as well.

Recent updates on my life!

Hello everyone!

Recently I have been posting & sharing meaningful stories with my readers~ hope you guys enjoyed that! :D

I’m going to post updates about my life now – it have been a long time since I ever rant and rant much about the happenings in my life! Have it been a month or so?

Currently, I’m so called a full-time slacker! Although I’m going to get busy soon with Imagine Cup competition. :D

A bunch of good news for me this week, first of all, I shall start with my further studies issues – I’m glad that National University of Singapore (NUS) have offered me a place in their School of Computing! :D That’s cool! And so do some of my friends, congrats to them as well! Hereby I wishes best luck to my other friends whom are still waiting for replies from NUS! :D

Next I’ll move on to my semester results for my this final semester in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). It’s a great semester! I’m glad, really. Before I talk about results, I’ll first refresh my memories on the semester’s happenings first.

First of all, I have my Industrial Attachment Programme (IAP) at The Boys’ Brigade in Singapore. I’ve learnt alot of things working there! From how to do management work on the inside, all the way to replying emails & handling people on the outside (Public Relations), which is really cool! Mr Joseph Ang & Ms Chan Oi Lam taught me alot! :D So for this ‘module’, I got a PASS, which is good as there is only a PASS or FAIL for this module.

Next, I have my Final Year Project (FYP), working on a Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) project, creating an Industrial Attachment Programme Portal (IAPP). It was a very interesting yet challenging project! I have to self learnt C# programming language which was not taught in my diploma, and I have to study the concepts of what is needed and what is the current problem etc.. then I have to design the whole system from scratch, including the database itself! Then I have to move on to completing many web pages (to code them properly, of course) and write documentations, and also think of what else to add on to the site in future (think of work for future batches to do :P ).

So for my FYP, overall I’d like to thanks Mdm Kang Siew Hwa (my project supervisor, whom taught me alot & helped me alot), also like to thanks my friends (James Yeo & Yan Sheng) for helping me with my programming error and giving me excellent advises throughout my planning on the project! :D I managed to obtain a DISTINCTION for this module, which is very good, because among all the students whom got an A grade for our FYP, 13 of us were nominated to proceed to the Distinction Presentation to present our project to the Directors’ Panel; and only 5 of us will get a distinction grade! :D I’m delighteddddd~

Next is my Final Results upon graduation! I have managed to obtain quite a good culmulative GPA in my opinion. I have requested for my final official results transcript for the sake of application for scholarships and also, to upload it for NTU and NUS for admission purposes. I’m glad that I’ve officially graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) with Diploma in Multimedia & Infocomm Technology with Merit! :D

As mentioned in my other post before, I’ve received my first proof of Japanese Language Certificate (JLPT4), which is cool! :D My 150 hours have finally paid off~ Over my 4 semesters of studying japanese language, it have been calculated to be roughly (barely reach) 150 hours! I didn’t know that! Woots~

And again, as mentioned before, I’ve received my GOLD AWARD in NAPFA Physical Fitness Test. I’m proud of myself! :D Remember I said I want to try to see whether I can get myself promoted from PES B to PES A? The officer at CMPB told me that I got PES A for everything, the reason why I get a PES B overall is because I am mild overweight! & last time I’m silver? But now, I got a gold & I’m not overweight already (YES, I REDUCED MY WEIGHT! LOL!!). Let’s see if I can get ‘promoted’. If not, it’s okay, I’ll aim as high as possible no matter what. :D

Recently start to play AuditionSEA again. Introduced the game to dear & mei, then play together. I’m definitely not going to return back to becoming an active player again though. Life’s been busy. LOL. But the feeling is still great to enjoy the music, yet play a game. To challenge new songs and challenge myself to chain everything together, is SUPER FUN! :D

Also been playing PC Games – 仙剑奇侠传四, which is very fun. And also, sometimes playing Left4Dead when I’m free; everyone are playing it! I can’t let myself drop out of the trend, can I? :p

Been playing PSP also, Mana Khemia: Student Alliance – it’s quite a fun game! Quite interesting; no guides are written for this game yet though, it’s rather new. I’m wondering whether I should write a walkthrough/guide on this game and post it on GameFAQs and GameSpot. :p Not my first time posting game guides already though. But recently busy leh.

Oh ya, some updates on Imagine Cup 2009 MashUp category - PlanetKY has went through Round 1 successfully, which is totally GREAT!! :D

Actually my focus is in Software Design category, Yan Sheng, Colin, James, & myself, the four of us worked hard for weeks to get the ideas generated and proposals done. We put in so much effort in it, but a pity it didn’t get pass round 1, we did not achieve the top 16 teams in Singapore.

Throughout the planning, we did something for MashUp category, but later due to some reasons, NYP cancelled the plan. But since James and I did it already, we decided to just try our luck. :D To our surprise, we made it to round 2! This is really cool, seriously!!!

The MashUp application idea which James & I had is ranked TOP 15 IN THE WORLD!! As shown on the leaderboard, only 2 teams were from Singapore, one is our team from Nanyang Polytechnic, the other team is from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The other teams are also from well known institudes & universities like for example, Georgia Institute of Technology. Let’s hope we stand a chance against these teams! :D Wish us luck!!

Looking forward to the Graduation Ceremony! :P Let’s hope it’s a memorable and great one! And pray that I got a chance in squeezing myself into the top 3 places (although from what I know, I no hope already, GPA too low)

Till I blog again, cheerios everyone!!!:)

Bricks

Here’s another very meaningful story. Read it, and you will understand why is it so meaningful. Here you go:

A young and very successful executive named Josh was traveling down a Chicago neighborhood street.

He was going a bit too fast in his sleek, black, 12 cylinder Jaguar XKE, which was only two months old.

He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, no child darted out, but a brick sailed out and – WHUMP! – it smashed Into the Jag’s shiny black side door! SCREECH..!!!! Brakes slammed! Gears ground into reverse, and tires madly spun the Jaguar back to the spot from where the brick had been thrown.

Josh jumped out of the car, grabbed the kid and pushed him up against a parked car. He shouted at the kid, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing?!” Building up a head of steam, he went on. “That’s my new Jag, that brick you threw is gonna cost you a lot of money. Why did you throw it?”

“Please, mister, please. . . I’m sorry! I didn’t know what else to do!” Pleaded the youngster. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop!”

Tears were dripping down the boy’s chin as he pointed around the parked car.

“It’s my brother, mister,” he said. “He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up.” Sobbing, the boy asked the executive, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and he’s too heavy for me.”

Moved beyond words, the young executive tried desperately to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. Straining, he lifted the young man back into the wheelchair and took out his handkerchief and wiped the scrapes and cuts, checking to see that everything was going to be OK.

He then watched the younger brother push him down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long walk back to the sleek, black, shining, 12 cylinder Jaguar XKE -a long and slow walk. Josh never did fix the side door of his Jaguar.

He kept the dent to remind him not to go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at him to get his attention…

Some bricks are softer than others. Feel for the bricks of life coming at to you. For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves, God has positive answers.

FOCUSING on PROBLEMS VS FOCUSING on SOLUTIONS

Case #1 : When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens would not work at zero gravity (ink will not flow down to the writing surface).

Solution #1 : To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.

Solution #2 : Use a pencil.

Case #2 : One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soapbox, which happened in one of Japan ‘s biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soapbox that was empty.

Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly Line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soapbox went through the assembly line empty.

Management asked its engineers to solve the problem.

Solution #1 : Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soapboxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a whoopee amount to do so.

Solution #2 : But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc., but instead came out with another solution.

He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soapbox passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Moral of Story
· Always look for simple solutions.
· Devise the simplest possible solution that solves the problems.
· Always focus on solutions & not on problems

Black & White (meaningful story)

In life, a lesson learned in your past that you will never forget completely. When I was in elementary school, I got into a major argument with a boy in my class. I have forgotten what the argument was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson learned that day.

I was convinced that “I” was right and “he” was wrong – and he was just as convinced that “I” was wrong and “he” was right.

The teacher decided to teach us a very important lesson. She brought us up to the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large, round object. I could clearly see that it was black. She asked the boy what color the object was. “White,” he answered.

I couldn’t believe he said the object was white, when it was obviously black! Another argument started between my classmate and me, this time about the color of the object.

The teacher told me to go stand where the boy was standing and told him to come stand where I had been. We changed places, and now she asked me what the color of the object was. I had to answer, “White.” It was an object with two differently colored sides, and from his viewpoint it was white. Only from my side was it black.

My teacher taught me a very important lesson learned that day: You must stand in the other person’s shoes and look at the situation through their eyes in order to truly understand their perspective .

JLPT4 Exams Results!

YES! I managed to pass my JLPT4 examination! (JLPT4 means level 4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (日本語能力試験).

I took the test last year in December 2008 (yes, you will know if you’ve read my blog often :p) and yes! I have been worried about the results ever since~ because my results statistic from doing the past years papers are always near or slightly above borderline! I am required to score 60% to pass JLPT4, which is 240/400) and my average score is 230 (fail) to 280 (pass). Thus I’m worried LOL.

But luckily, I manage to pass! Although the results not very high, I’m contented already! Wooots~

I shall go and collect my certificate at the Japanese Cultural Society at Midland House, 112 Middle Road #05-00, S(188970) soon!! :D

Hope all fellow friends whom took the test could pass JLPT4 too!
