Field Howitzer 2000 (FH2000) A.K.A 155MM

As mentioned in the previous blog entries; I’m now a Specialist Cadet Trainee in the School of Artillery (Khatib Camp), and my specialisation is FH2000 A.K.A 155MM!

Don’t know what the heck is that?? Never mind, you’re not the only one! I don’t know what is it when I’m being told that I’m going to be trained on that too! :p

Here are some information I have managed to find out from my good friend, Wikipedia.

The Field Howitzer 2000 (FH2000) was developed by Singapore Technologies for Singapore Army. It is a 155 mm/52-calibre towed howitzer gun. It fires projectiles to a maximum range of 42 kilometers using special extended range ammunition. It has a crew of eight and uses a 75 hp diesel Auxiliary power unit to give it a self propelled speed of 10 kilometers an hour movement without towing.

The firing platform, when fully deployed, support the howitzer using a tripod mechanical structure. Firing loads are transmitted to the ground through this tripod, isolating the hydraulic cylinders of the platform, which provides for greater reliability.

The FH2000 can be fitted with a series of sighting systems from optical to electro-optical. These sighting systems can be linked to the fire control computers. The breech mechanism is semi-automatic & it opens automatically during counter recoil. An electronically controlled and hydraulically powered flick rammer rams the projectile into the barrel chamber with high consistency.

Cheerios~~

  1. Hey I’m a recruit booking in tonight for field camp week.
Read through most of your army posts and found them very inspiring! I admire you for being so positive and strong throughout your course. Hope that I don’t break down during field camp…

It’s true when they say army bonds all men in Singapore, even though I have no idea who you are, I could identify with many things you wrote..

  2. Hi Anonymous,

I’m really glad to hear that my blog posts inspired you! ;)

Army is something all of us (men of Singapore) has to go through, why not spend these time more meaningfully and learn/grow as much as we can, and become a better person? :)

Hope you’ll enjoy & do well for your field camp!

    Cheers!

    Regards,
    Wen Bin
